Makino Automation

Makino offers a comprehensive range of manufacturing automation systems designed to improve machine utilization, eliminate setup time, reduce scrap, minimize manual labor, enhance operator ergonomics, and streamline production scheduling. Successful integration of these systems begins with thorough upfront planning and the development of an automation blueprint that outlines the key steps for effective implementation.

Robot Integration

Mass production focuses on manufacturing a limited range of unique parts at high volumes. For decades, Makino has advanced mass production processes, leveraging extensive expertise in integrating pedestal, floor track, and overhead robotics with vision systems, conveyors, and material handling solutions. This integration ensures a seamless and comprehensive design plan tailored to your production needs.

Additional capabilities such as part marking, leak testing, parts washing, and inspection can also be incorporated. With a fully turnkey process—including SPC runoff and full-system “run at rate”—Makino provides the assurance and confidence you need to consistently meet customer requirements.

Linear Pallet Pool System (MMC2)

Like all Makino solutions, the MMC2 (Makino Machining Complex 2) is engineered to accelerate time-to-market while maintaining exceptional quality. By eliminating part setup time and minimizing non-value-added costs, the MMC2 ensures a continuous flow of parts to the machines, keeping spindles cutting and productivity high.

While a standalone machine is limited to just two pallets, the MMC2 features a linear pallet pool system capable of managing up to 200 pallets, each accessible to any machine within the system. This scalable pool of pallets, combined with integrated scheduling, eliminates setup delays and ensures that no single job is dependent on one machine or pallet. The result is highly flexible production management that maximizes machine utilization and responsiveness to changing production demands.

Fixture Plate Handling System (MMC-R)

The MMC-R system builds on the capabilities of the traditional linear pallet pool (MMC2), offering enhanced flexibility through its robot vehicle and innovative fixture plate interface. Unlike conventional pallet-based systems, the MMC-R enables machine loading regardless of pallet size or design, since fixture plates are transferred directly into the machine.

This design allows the system to support a wide range of platforms, including horizontal, vertical, and 5-axis machines. Beyond machining, the MMC-R can also integrate seamlessly with third-party equipment such as CMMs or part washers, creating a highly adaptable and efficient automation cell.

Pallet Automation

Makino’s Pallet Magazine system is designed for maximum efficiency when running families of parts. It allows operators to select the desired part program without the delays of additional set-up, streamlining workflow and reducing downtime. By preloading pallets, the system supports true lights-out production during unattended shifts.

Even better, its standard configuration requires little to no custom engineering, making integration straightforward. The system features a circular pallet pool, available in single- or multi-layer configurations, connected to one machining center. It includes a dedicated worksetting station for loading and unloading parts, along with seven pallet stations per layer to accommodate a variety of fixtures and production needs.
